Live well & travel flexibly
Residential location choice and mobility behaviour – insights into the decision-making behaviour of households in Vienna and Lower Austria
n this project, we assess factors of residential location choice and preferences in transport mode choice of households in Vienna and Lower Austria. Good public transport connections, an attractive living environment, pedestrian routes and bicycle infrastructure influence mobility behaviour. We would like to better understand decision-making processes on residential location and transport mode choice.
The project aims to answer the following research questions: What is the importance of accessibility to the workplace and place of residence by public transport? What considerations do households have to make when choosing where to live? What mobility offers are they interested in at their place of residence? How do partners weigh up the accessibility of their workplace and their preferences for their place of residence?
These questions will be answered by focus groups in Vienna and a representative online survey with Viennese and Lower Austrians. The aim is to develop a better understanding of housing and mobility needs, constraints and preferences. The results will be used to make recommendations for effective environmentally friendly and needs-oriented urban development.
